Workshop Klezmer Basics

3–5 October 2025 in Erfurt

In this workshop weekend we offer you a compact overview regarding all the important aspects of klezmer music: characteristic scales and modi, articulation and phrasing of melodies, typical klezmer ornamentations and special techniques on your instrument, the most important Yiddish dances and their accompanying rhythms, historical background etc.

We invite all melody instrumentalists, who want to learn more about klezmer styles or refresh their existing knowledge. Pre-existing knowledge is not necessarily needed, but you should be secure on playing your instrument and be able to play easy melodies from sight.

We will talk a bit about accompanying rhythms, but the focus in this workshop will be on playing the melody and all that goes with it (see above). This is why this workshop is not suitable for exclusively accompanying instruments like percussion.
If you are not sure, please send and e-mail to info@klezwecan.de.
